Greaves Electric Mobility has officially closed a ₹530 crore rights issue. The equity capital injection was fully subscribed by existing anchor shareholders in proportion to their existing stakes. The issue was led by parent company Greaves Cotton Limited (GCL) and global investor Abdul Latif Jameel Green Mobility Solutions (ALJ), reflecting strong institutional confidence in GEML's long-term growth trajectory.

Who is Greaves Electric Mobility?

Greaves Electric Mobility (GEML) stands as one of India's earliest and most vertically integrated EV manufacturers, with over 13 years of experience in designing, engineering, and manufacturing zero-emission vehicles tailored specifically for India.

The company operates across two high-volume transport pillars:

  1. Electric Two-Wheelers (Ampere): Under its popular flagship brand Ampere, GEML produces high-speed family and commuter scooters such as the Ampere Nexus and Primus, targeting both retail commuters and last-mile B2B delivery fleets.
  2. Electric Three-Wheelers (Greaves 3-Wheelers & ELE): GEML manufactures commercial passenger and cargo three-wheelers, led by its flagship Eltra and Eltra City lineups. Built with robust metal bodies and high-torque electric powertrains, the Eltra series serves as a critical workhorse for last-mile logistics and urban public transit.

GEML anchors its manufacturing and R&D operations out of facilities in Ranipet (Tamil Nadu), Noida, and Hyderabad, supported by a retail and service network spanning over 400 dealer touchpoints across India.

How the ₹530 Crore Will Be Spent

According to GEML leadership, the fresh funds will be deployed directly into core engineering and scaling initiatives:

  • In-House Battery & Powertrain R&D: Accelerating indigenous development of proprietary Battery Management Systems (BMS), thermal management setups, and high-efficiency localized powertrains designed for tropical Indian climates.

  • Product Lineup Expansion: Expanding variants under the Ampere 2W and Eltra 3W portfolios to capture emerging market segments in Tier-2, Tier-3, and rural hubs.

  • Supply Chain & PM E-DRIVE Alignment: Deepening component localization to ensure compliance with government manufacturing guidelines and seamless consumer access to e-voucher incentives under the PM E-DRIVE scheme.

  • Retail & Service Network Growth: Doubling regional sales and service hubs to provide reliable after-sales support and fleet maintenance.

Strategic Context

Alongside the capital raise, GEML clarified its stance regarding its proposed Initial Public Offering (IPO). While the company opted not to utilize a timeline extension provided by SEBI for its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP), management reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing a public listing at an appropriate time when market conditions align.

With the 2W and 3W EV markets experiencing fierce competition from legacy players and new startups, GEML’s ₹530 crore equity infusion provides the financial balance sheet flexibility needed to scale production, advance in-house tech, and capture growing last-mile commercial demand without compromising operational stability.
