Cancelled my XEV 9S booking after Venom Tech's video

I was very excited to be purchasing my first EV; XEV 9S. After watching the trending Venom Tech's video, I have cancelled my booking. If the brand Mahindra does not care about it's image and does this to a social media influencer then it may happen to me or any common customer. I know this is not an EV related problem but the insurance company marked the car as XUV 700 which is absurd. Even they do not have idea of EVs. Ecosystem is not only car and charging infrastructure but these small details matter as well.

I am part of a car youtuber's EV WhatsApp group. It seems like the active users do not have a defense against this. There are some Mahindra fanboys there as well who are completely silent on the matter which tells me Mahindra wants this issue to die a natural death rather than being talked about in closed groups which have its own set of influencers. Anyways, I think it is better to go with some other car maybe a hybrid as it will save me a few bucks in running costs.

You are right in the saying that neither Mahindra nor ICICI are covered in glory following this incident. But this is not one incident in isolation. Such incidents have happened with other brands and insurance companies and for ICE vehicles as well. It is just that these do not come to light as they are not EVs and doesn't happen to youtubers. Not buying a Mahindra car or an EV is your right to decide what is best for you. I hope Mahindra comes out with an official statement as they did for the fire incident. An apology statement will also go a long way in developing brand trust.

Suhail Gulati I don't think they have the audacity to come out and make a statement on this matter. Their dealer has been completely exposed here. They should recall the the car to MRV, fix it properly and till that time provide a substitute car as well. That will be a way of damage control.

Cancelling your booking is a personal choice. My two cents on this 1. This is not related to EVs like the youtuber made it to be. It can happen with any car 2. The biggest mistake was to agree for repair what there was such major damage. I have dealt with a similar situation y3ars back but you can work out a middle path with insurance. That path is insurance pays X amount and rest comes from insurance selling the car to third party 3. No service center for any OEM can bring an accidental car with major damage back to factory finish. The quality of workmanship doesn't exist in India. In this case, insurance surveyor seems to have rejected claim for some minor damaged parts as well

Ferrarirules Why blame the customer in this? Not everyone is as aware as you of how to deal with insurance companies. Maybe he did and they denied. Why did the service center then say that the car will be as new. They should have been truthful. His latest post on twitter mentions that screens etc are not working properly. One thing is for sure that the Mahindra service center and ICICI duped him. That is a fact. https://x.com/venomstech/status/2018402281826439189?s=46

This risk exists with buying any car because ultimately the insurance company doesn't care if the car is EV or ICE. They were just trying to reduce their total cash outgo.

Shyam Sunder If the company has a good top-down approach then these things do not take place. The problem is that Indian manufacturers do not have a robust dealership model and they do not have an intention to improve. They only care about sales or extracting money via service.
