Featured image for Sierra.ev QWD vs Harrier.ev QWD: Which Tata EV Offers More?

Tata Motors now has two electric SUVs on sale with its dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) system: the recently launched Sierra.ev  and the more established Harrier.ev. With the Sierra.ev's top-spec Empowered QWD A variant priced close to the Harrier.ev's Fearless+ 75 QWD trim, the two sit within roughly half a lakh rupees of each other, effectively overlapping on price despite being positioned as separate models in Tata's electric SUV range. This piece lays out what each offers, based on specifications and pricing published by Tata Motors.

Pricing

The Sierra.ev range starts at ₹18.79 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Pure 63 RWD variant and goes up to ₹25.99 lakh for the range-topping Empowered A QWD variant, which houses the dual-motor system.

The Harrier.ev range starts at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and extends to ₹28.99 lakh. Within this range, the Fearless+ 75 QWD variant, the more accessible of the two QWD trims, is priced at ₹26.49 lakh (ex-showroom), sitting below the range-topping Empowered QWD variants.

At these two variants, the Sierra.ev's QWD trim undercuts the Harrier.ev's Fearless+ QWD trim by approximately ₹50,000.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The two SUVs differ noticeably in size, despite their similar pricing at these trims.

The Sierra.ev has a length of 4,340 mm, a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, a width of 1,841 mm, and stands 1,750 mm tall. It offers a 622-litre boot, can expand to 1,257 litres with the rear seats folded, along with a 35-litre front trunk on the QWD variant.

The Harrier.ev has a length of 4,607 mm, a wheelbase of 2,741 mm, a width of 1,922 mm, and stands 1,740 mm tall. Harrier.ev's boot space is at 502 litres, with a 35-litre front trunk on the QWD variant.

Comparing the two, the Harrier.ev is 267 mm longer, has a wheelbase 11 mm longer than the Sierra.ev's, and is also 81 mm wider. The Sierra.ev, on the other hand, sits 10 mm taller than the Harrier.ev and offers considerably more boot space, 120 litres more before folding the rear seats. Both offer the same 35-litre frunk at the QWD trim.

Powertrain and Performance

Both SUVs use Tata's Acti.ev+ electric vehicle architecture and are built around a 75 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack paired with a dual-motor QWD setup for their QWD variants, this LFP chemistry is a feature common to both cars.

Where they differ is in cell construction. The Sierra.ev's battery pack uses prismatic cells in a cell-to-pack design. The Harrier.ev's battery pack, by contrast, uses cylindrical cells. Both are packs are sourced from Octillion Power Systems.

On power output, the Sierra.ev's Empowered A QWD variant produces a cumulative 306 PS and 504 Nm of torque, with Tata claiming a 0-100 kmph time of 5.8 seconds when Boost Mode is engaged. The claimed driving range, tested to the MIDC standard, is up to 665 km.

The Harrier.ev's Fearless+ 75 QWD variant uses a dual-motor setup delivering 158 PS at the front axle and 238 PS at the rear, for a combined 504 Nm of torque. The company claims a 0-100 kmph time of 6.3 seconds. The Harrier.ev's 75 kWh QWD variant carries a claimed MIDC range of up to 622 km.

Both Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev both use an independent front suspension with McPherson strut and stabilizer bar, and an independent multilink rear suspension with stabilizer bar. While Sierra.ev uses Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), Harrier.ev adds to the FDD using MTV-CL (Multi Tuned Valve - Concentric Land) technology.

On a 120 kW DC fast charger, the Sierra.ev goes from 20–80% in approximately 26 minutes, while the Harrier.ev, also rated for 120 kW DC fast charging, completes the same 20-80% charge in approximately 25 minutes.

Off-Road and Drive Features

Both SUVs share a broadly similar off-road-oriented feature set on their QWD variants, reflecting their common architecture:

  • Six terrain response modes (Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Ruts/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom)
  • Off-Road Assist
  • Boost Mode for short bursts of additional power
  • A 540-degree surround-view camera system with a transparent underbody view mode

Cabin and Technology

The Sierra.ev's Empowered A QWD variant is built around Tata's "Horizon View" triple-screen dashboard layout, comprising a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch front-passenger display, and a 10.25-inch driver display. The Harrier.ev's Fearless+ 75 QWD variant, by comparison, uses a two-screen layout, a central touchscreen infotainment display paired with a separate digital driver display, without the additional front-passenger screen.

Shared features: Both variants offer a JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos, ventilated front seats with a powered and memory function for the driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360/540-degree camera system, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and over-the-air software update support.

Where they differ: The Sierra.ev's Empowered A QWD gets a 12-speaker JBL system, while the Harrier.ev's Fearless+ 75 QWD comes with a 10-speaker JBL Black system. The Sierra.ev also adds a head-up display and Auto Park Assist with 15 functions, including self-parking and vehicle summon, features which the Harrier.ev's Fearless+ trim misses out.

One notable difference concerns driver assistance: the Sierra.ev's Empowered A QWD variant comes with Level 2+ ADAS, with 23 features including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. The Harrier.ev's Fearless+ 75 QWD variant does not include ADAS, on the Harrier.ev, Level 2 ADAS is reserved for the Empowered trims, positioned above the Fearless+ range.

Warranty

Both SUVs are covered by Tata's lifetime high-voltage battery warranty, defined by the company as 15 years from the date of the vehicle's first registration, applicable to private registrations and eligible company-perk vehicle registrations. In the event of ownership transfer, this reduces to 10 years or 2,00,000 km, whichever comes first, on both models.

Buyers are advised to confirm current pricing, features, and availability with an authorised Tata Motors dealer, as the company notes that prices and specifications are subject to change without prior notice.
