I’m an EQS 580 owner from Bangalore and a long-time EV user since 2019, currently owning multiple EVs across brands—all of which have been reliable. I purchased the EQS 580 in April 2024 (₹1.65 crore) to mark a special moment in my family, expecting a flagship luxury EV experience. Unfortunately, what followed has been the exact opposite.
Right from delivery, the car had unresolved issues like a persistent speed warning sound above 80 km/h, which took over a year to be addressed.
Major Incidents:
1st Breakdown – Nov 1, 2025 (Mysore city)
While on a family trip with my wife and 1-year-old infant, the car displayed a transmission malfunction warning and then completely shut down in traffic. The vehicle wouldn’t restart, couldn’t be shifted to neutral, and caused a major traffic jam. We were stranded on the road in heat for over 1.5 hours before help arrived.
2nd Breakdown – Few days later
After being told it was a “software fix,” the car broke down again within 100 meters of my house and had to be towed again.
3rd Breakdown – Nov 30, 2025 (Mysore city)
The exact same failure occurred again in a crowded area during a family outing with guests. The car shut down completely, leading to public embarrassment and another tow.
Major Repair Phase
After weeks of back-and-forth, the car was kept for nearly a month. Eventually, the rear drive unit was replaced, yet no clear root cause explanation was provided.
4th Incident – Jan 2026 (Highway trip)
During another family trip, the tyre burst at night on a smooth highway despite cautious driving (TPMS showed ~29 PSI earlier). We were stranded again for hours with family, infant, and pet until towing arrived.
Key Issues:
- Repeated complete vehicle shutdowns (serious safety concern)
- Breakdowns in high-risk situations (traffic, highway, night travel)
- Months of downtime while still paying EMI
- Lack of transparency in diagnosis and repairs
- Major component replacement (drive unit) without clear explanation
- Additional issues even after repair (charging flap, wheel concerns)
Current Situation:
Despite multiple escalations to the dealer and Mercedes-Benz India:
- No refund or replacement offered
- No compensation for downtime or hardship
- Only asked to take back the same vehicle with minor assurances
I have completely lost confidence in the safety, reliability, and quality of this car. As someone who owns multiple EVs, this is the first time I’ve faced such repeated failures and distress.
Final Thoughts:
A Mercedes-Benz is expected to deliver peace of mind, safety, and a premium ownership experience. Sadly, this car has caused repeated breakdowns, public embarrassment, family distress, and financial burden.
I am now pursuing further action, but would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences from fellow members here.
