Gujarat has initiated a pilot project to develop EV charging stations powered by renewable energy, bringing renewable power generation, energy storage and EV charging together in one system.
Gujarat Energy Minister Rushikesh Patel announced the initiative on August 24, 2026. The project is part of three pilot initiatives with a combined value of around ₹9.02 crore and involves the Gujarat Power Research and Development Cell (GPRD Cell) under GUVNL in collaboration with GERMI.
EV Charging to Run on Renewable Energy
The proposed charging project will combine hybrid renewable-energy generation with energy storage to support EV charging.
The model is designed to generate electricity from renewable sources and store it for use when required. This could reduce reliance on conventional grid electricity and allow charging infrastructure to make greater use of locally generated clean power.
