On 24th March 2026, a Tata Curvv EV top model (55 kWh battery) owner had to spend the night in Ranchi due to the inability to charge his vehicle at multiple charging stations.
He first attempted charging at the EV charging station at Padav Family Restaurant. After recharging the Tata Power EZ Charge App and inserting the charging gun, the main incomer MCB tripped. When the MCB was turned ON again, the charging station showed an error (yellow indication). He then called Tata Power customer support (18008332233) at 8:31 PM on 24/03/2026, but no operator answered the call.
Subsequently, he went to Ranchi city and tried charging at 3–4 different stations, after charged his EV Car, finally he started his journey from Ranchi to Gaya around 5:00 AM today (25/03/2026) and reached home at approximately 11:30 AM.
I am sharing this as I personally witnessed the situation while having dinner at Padav Family Restaurant, Deori, Tamar, while returning from Ranchi Airport. My own Tata Curvv EV (Accomplished 55) had about 40% charge, which was sufficient for me to reach my hometown, Jamshedpur.
*The core issue is not the availability of charging stations, but their non-functionality. *
Many charging stations remain out of order.
Additionally, hotel owners often show little interest in maintaining these charging stations, as EV owners pay directly to the charging service providers rather than to the hotel.
This is a serious concern and needs immediate attention.

Uptime of these public chargers in some areas is a concern. Chargers at fuel stations cam solve majority of the problem but private players also need to train property owners how issues like tripping etc can be solved.

East of India lacks a robust charging network. Lack of EV sales might be the reason for the same

I have faced many issues with Statiq app. Charger will be online but won’t initiate charging.

This is a very sad situation. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar state governments should increase infrastructure and central government should increase grid capacity in these states. This is the need of the hour.
